CinBA conference is taking place in Cripps Court, which is situated on the opposite side of Chesterton Lane from the main site of Magdalene College.
Getting to Cambridge and Magdalene College:
By Road
Cambridge is well served by the M11 and A14. London and the South East are only a short drive away. The A14 provides an excellent link to the M6, M1 and A1 making Cambridge easily accessible from the North and West as well as from the rest of East Anglia.
Car parking within the College and the City Centre as a whole is limited, however, the excellent Madingley Road Park and Ride service is 5 minutes away from the College and runs past the Porters’ Lodge. The Park and Ride car parks are free and the buses from these car parks run every 10 minutes during the day, although with less frequent service in the early morning and evening. The bus fare is £2.50 return from the ticket machines (it’s a good idea to have the exact amount available as the machines do not give change), or £2.80 return from the bus driver. By Bus
The Bus Station is close to the City Centre in Drummer Street, about 10 minutes walk from College. There are regular buses to London and most other UK cities – contact National Express for details.
There are coach services from Cambridge to Luton-Heathrow-Gatwick and Stansted-Heathrow-Gatwick leaving Cambridge approx on the hour, every hour, from 03:00 until 21:00. Coaches from the airports arrive approx every hour from 06:00 until 23:00. Contact National Express for details.
By Rail
There are frequent direct trains from/to London King’s Cross and Liverpool St. (journey time approx 50 minutes). Check out the On-line UK Journey Planner or phone National Rail Enquiries, (08457) 484950.
The railway station is in Station Road, about a mile south of the City Centre (30 minutes walk from College). There is a regular bus to/from the City Centre every 8 minutes during the day and taxis are also available. The Citi 1, Citi 3 or Citi 7 buses run from the railway station to the bus station. The Citi 1 stops on Bridge Street (the closest stop to the College and is 2 minutes’ walk away). The Citi 3 and Citi 7 stop in the city centre. The single fare is approximately £1.50 and a day ticket is £3.50. The buses run every 10 minutes between 7 am and 7 pm. The journey takes approximately 15 – 20 minutes.
The taxi journey from the station to the College takes approximately 10 – 15 minutes, but in the rush hour the journey could take 30 minutes. Taxis cost approximately £7 – £10 depending on the time of day. Alternatively, it takes about 30 – 40 minutes to walk.
By Air
Stansted is by far the most convenient airport to get to as it is served with direct train line to Cambridge, which takes about 30 minutes. Despite its proximity Luton is less well connected and most of the trains run into London and then back out to Cambridge, a journey lasting over 2 hours. The coach link from Luton airport to Cambridge takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutres. Heathrow and Gatwick are also accessible, both via coach sevices and trains from central London (King’s Cross and Liverpool St stations via London Underground).
